The Inner Circle

It’s been a while since I last wrote, I’ve just been so busy with planning the gather and with work. Works fine, I’m enjoying it. I’m working on this horrible new database for assets. It’s full of VB code and generally sucks.

My new wireless card came today, which works fine in my ipaq. I still can’t get either of them to work with this crummy laptop, every time windows inits them they gpf. Oh well.

My car needs petrol soon, I’m off into town for a little bit tonight, so I’ll get it then. We’ll see what happens tonight ;). Marks offered to go to the Drum for a couple tonight, but I really can’t be arsed, it’s raining and it coinsides with plans already.

I’m missing Millie, apparently she’s having fun in France, so that’s good for her. She used the word “Love” in a text message the other day for the first time ever. Which was cute, maybe things are getting stronger between us?? I know I’ve been in love with her for a while.

Although strangely I’m not feeling as bad as I expected, perhaps it’s because work is keeping me so busy I don’t notice not having her. Hmmm.

Wow, it’s been a hell of a week. I’ve completed my first week at work, and enjoyed it. It’s certainly not like I thought it would be.

So what’s been going on?

Well I’ve been driving my car for four days now, I’ve almost got the clutch and biting points, only occasionaly am I cocking it up. Heh, now I’ve just got to learn to drive the pool cars at work.

At work, heh, well I’ve settled into a routine, I’ve taken the back up job from Gary, I change the tapes in the morning and monitor the other sites as soon as I get in. He still checks them at night. I’ve been to so many of the other offices now, sat in a car for far to long. I’ve also finaly recieved my contract from BW, so that makes life a little better.

I’m missing Millie so much, I want to snuggle with her. I haven’t spoken to her in 7 days, and I’m missing her so much.

I’m chilling now for a while, I need to prepare some stuff for this DALnet meeting tommorow at 9. I’m not sure how many people I’ll get turning up, but we’ll see.

I’m also hosting the #docs gather on the 12th-15th… loads of people are coming, it’s our biggest one yet. http://www.alastria.org/docs_gather.htm is the plan for it. Everyone is staying over, so god knows what’s happening.

Well…it’s been a busy few days. I started work on Monday, I got my work security card, loads of junk to read through. God knows how many security codes and passwords.

Heh, Millie flew over to france yeasturday, she said she wasn’t to happy with what her accomidation was like, so they (her and one of the other people over there) complained like hell, and got better rooms.

She’s now apparently got a good view out of her room, she can see the Eiffle Tower. She had her first day of work today, she said that it had mostly been presentations and other such things. Kinda like my first day, I spent the morning with my manager, Mandy Brown.

She introduced me into the various systems at British Waterways, obviously I’m not allowed to reveal them. This morning I spent a training session with Dawn Taylor, she taught me how to use GroupWise, the email and management software. It’s horrible.

I’m beginning to get used to dealing with Novell software, it’s nasty and should be wiped of the plannet :).

I’m also getting used to my counterpart Gary Watts, who I’ll be replacing completely in 3 months, he’s from Liverpool, so you can imagine his accent.

I’m beginning to get used to working there, slowly getting into the roles they expect from me. We went out for lunch today at The Empirors Court, for Sam’s birthday, a girl I’d only known for 10 minutes and was down for dinner with the rest of the finance department.

There are two kinda cute women there but it’s all by the by because I’ve got Millie. I’m missing Millie so much, I may get to talk to her tommorow, I hope so.

Oh wel, my parents are on holiday for two weeks, we have a #docs gather planned for the weekend after next. I’m sat in the living room chilling. It’s getting a little late now, so I should be in bed as I have work in the morning.

I’m gonna go and chill, esp before this laptop crashes.
